It may be December 16, and a Tuesday, but that didn’t stop Howard Stern from making it his last fresh show of the year. And, the more-than $100 million per-year self-proclaimed “King of all Media” isn’t going anywhere, he has revealed.
A new SiriusXM contract is in hand, and it has been signed.
The fate of Stern had been a topic of discussion for months, and the former radio “shock jock” who two decades ago thumbed his nose at the FCC by signing a highly lucrative contract with Sirius Satellite Radio — exiting at a point in time when CBS had paid a multimillion-dollar indecency fine tied to the infamous Janet Jackson-Justin Timberlake Super Bowl halftime show “wardrobe malfunction” — was rumored to be on the outs with the satellite radio company.
Upon his return from summer vacation, Stern disputed the chatter that his time at SiriusXM would be coming to a close at the end of 2025. It turns out that was true. On Tuesday morning, Stern officially announced that he will continue to host “The Howard Stern Show” exclusively on SiriusXM for three more years.
With that, Stern will be in reruns until Monday, January 5. He said, “I am happy to announce that I have figured out a way to have it all. More free time and continuing to be on the radio. Yes, we are coming back for three years.”
He also made it clear that he’s not at all upset or frustrated with SiriusXM — at least today, or publicly. “Thanks to the good folks here at SiriusXM, who I told you, I really do adore,” Stern said. “I was able to create Robin a more flexible schedule and so we’ll be back. I know you and I have talked about it privately, Robin, even though you’re pretending you didn’t know the announcement. But I did check with my Robin to see that she was up for it as well because if Robin wasn’t up for it, then I wasn’t going to do it … I still do love being on the radio. I think the show is better than ever, I really do believe that in my heart.”
