A media advertising sales professional whose resume includes stints as SVP/GM for Entravision/Orlando and since March 2022 has served as President/GM of two TEGNA stations in Connecticut has been named VP/GM of Nexstar Media Group’s home for The CW in Houston.

As of May 13, the new leader for Nexstar’s KIAH-39 is Humberto Hormaza.

Hormaza, who exits as President/GM of FOX affiliate WTIC-61 in Hartford and its Waterbury, Conn.-licensed sibling that serves as The CW Network affiliate for Hartford-New Haven, WCCT-20, will be responsible for overseeing the long-term strategy and day-to-
day operations of “The CW 39.”

He reports to Nexstar SVP/Regional Manager Ron Romines.

“Humberto’s talent, leadership, and experience make him the ideal candidate to head Nexstar’s broadcast and digital operations in Houston,” Romines said. “He’s proven himself capable of directing the efforts of a large-scale operation and is adept at driving revenue, ratings, and profit. He understands what viewers and advertisers need and what will resonate with different audiences across multiple media platforms. I am very much looking forward to working with Humberto as he guides KIAH-TV and cw39.com to even greater success.”

Hormaza spent eight years at Entravision’s Orlando operations. Before joining that company in 2014, Hormaza was LSM for América TeVe and TeVeo in Miami, which airs on WJAN-TV and WFUN-TV. He has also been the business development manager at WFOR-4 and WBFS-33, CBS Stations in the Miami-Fort Lauderdale market. He began his career as an account executive with WFOR-4.

“I’m very grateful to Nexstar for giving me this opportunity and I’m excited about relocating to Houston,” Hormaza said. “As an affiliate of the CW Network, I’m looking forward to the new entertainment programming coming this fall to KIAH-TV and to the myriad of live sporting events we will broadcast. This high-quality programming,
combined with Nexstar’s commitment to local news and its ability to create unique cross-platform solutions for advertisers and marketers, gives KIAH-TV and cw39.com a distinct advantage over its competitors in the market. The team in Houston also has established a legacy of service to the community, and I can’t wait to join them.”
