When it comes to outdoor activities and recreation, there’s perhaps no better place in the Pacific Northwest to enjoy it all than picturesque Bend, Ore.

Here in this Central Oregon city, Horizon Broadcasting Group owns or operates five radio stations. As of Monday, those media properties have a new leader.

Taking the dual roles of GSM and Market Manager is Greg Obata.

He will oversee Classic Hits KQAK-FM 105.7; Hot Adult Contemporary KWPK-FM “The PEAK 104.1”; Classic Country KRCO-FM “95.7 The Ranch”; News/Talk KBNW-AM and its FM translator at 104.5 MHz; and Sports Talk KRCO-AM and its FM translator at 96.9 MHz known as “The Ticket.”

“I’m excited to welcome Greg to Central Oregon to lead our terrific group of broadcasters,” said Horizon President/CEO Keith Shipman. “He has enjoyed success in markets large and small throughout his career and I look forward to working with him at Horizon Broadcasting Group to help our customers grow their business.”

Obata was “ecstatic” about the “great opportunity to help HBG and the staff reach new levels of success, grow the business of our current and new clients, and be a part of the helping community in Central Oregon. It will be a lot of fun.”

Since 2008, Obata has owned and managed World Class Media, an advertising agency based in the Seattle area. From 2002-2004, Obata served as Director of Sales for Meredith Local Media in Portland, Ore., leading efforts for “FOX12” KPTV-TV and sibling KPDX-TV.  From 1992-1999, he was GSM for KCPQ-13 in Seattle under Tribune Co. ownership.

Radio industry experience includes three years as SVP and Director of Sales at Interep’s Major Market Radio in Los Angeles. This was from 1988-1991.

Obata is relocating from Bellevue, Wash., for the position.
