MIAMI — The flagship NBCUniversal Telemundo Station Group broadcast TV station, serving Spanish-speaking audiences across South Florida, has a new VP of News and Content. She rises from Director of Multiplatform Content and Streaming for this station and its NBC O&O sibling.
Helga Silva‘s successor in the role is Liliet Heredero, who has been with WSCV-51 and WTVJ-6 in Miami since 2022.
Silva is retiring after 14 years as Vice President of News at WSCV; she’s enjoyed a 50-plus year career in media and in her years at WSCV was instrumental in establishing Noticiero Telemundo as a leader, overtaking WLTV-23, the crosstown Univision flagship station.
Once in her new position, Heredero will provide strategic leadership for the newsroom and oversee all aspects of the station’s news production, operations and editorial across TV, streaming and digital media platforms. She reports to Spanish-language television veteran Jorge Carballo, the President/GM for NBCUniversal’s local media properties in Miami-Fort Lauderdale. Heredero will also work closely with WTVJ Vice President of News Dawn Clapperton.
Carballo commented, “Liliet is an experienced and passionate news leader who has successfully guided the growth of our streaming and digital media platforms, and made considerable contributions to Telemundo 51’s service to our South Florida audiences and communities. We’re excited for her to continue to build on the tremendous success Helga achieved during her remarkable tenure as our newsroom leader for the last 14 years. I want to congratulate Liliet on her promotion and wish Helga the best on her well-deserved next chapter.”
Heredero spent more than 13 years with the BBC before joining NBCU, serving as Senior Editor and Miami Bureau Chief for its Spanish-language BBC Mundo offering. She is a native of Cuba and began her career working with the state-run media company’s television division.
