The FCC has just opened dtv.gov/Hawaii for business. Citizens of the state, which is protecting its local birds by kicking off its DTV revolution and month early, will have its own place to go to get the facts they need. The Hawaiian deadline for analog shutdown is 12 PM 1/15/09, ahead of the 2/17/09 date applicable to the rest of the country. FCC Chairman Kevin Martin said, “We’ve included information for consumers about events in their area, how to contact local FCC staff members for help, and answers to some of the most frequently asked questions about the transition.”
RBR/TVBR observation: Any advance test before the big day in February will be welcome. But there won’t be much of a chance to assimilate any lessons learned here. It will be important to stay on top of this every day from here on in.
