Grizzlies moving to WMFS

Beginning with the 2011-12 season, the Memphis Grizzlies NBA team will be heard on Entercom’s WMFS 92.9 FM/680 AM in Memphis for at least the next three seasons. They’re moving from Citadel’s Soul Classics WRBO 103.5 FM. Although Soul Classics offered a stronger signal, the Grizzlies were apparently enticed by the sports programming ESPN will provide surrounding its broadcasts, reported The Commercial Appeal: “In some areas the AM side is stronger than the FM side. It’s a little bit directional,” said Randy Stephens, Grizzlies’ SVP/Broadcast. “This is an opportunity to take a look at different elements. You’re losing a little bit but we’re confident that with the AM/FM simulcast that we’ll adequately cover the market.”

In addition to game broadcasts, Grizzlies’ radio play-by-play announcer Eric Hasseltine will host a new show on 92.9 FM ESPN/680 AM ESPN from 2-4 p.m. Monday-Friday. The show debuts 8/22. Hasseltine will continue to team with color analysts Hank McDowell and Elliot Perry on broadcasts during the season.
