On July 1 of last year, Gray Media acquired the construction permit for a new full-power television station licensed to the seat of Carbon County, Utah, a small city to the southeast of Provo. Now, in a bid to improve its signal contour, Gray is asking the Media Bureau’s Video Division to allow it to shift from a VHF channel to a UHF facility.
As such, Video Division Chief Barbara Kreisman has established a comment period seeking public input on the request, which would move KCBU-DT from digital channel 11 to digital channel 15, in Price, Utah.
Gray’s proposed channel 15 facility would operate at an effective radiated power (ERP) of 0.2 kW and height above average terrain (HAAT) of 625.3 meters.
Gray states that if its proposed channel substitution is granted, it ultimately plans to convert the station into a Distributed Transmission System that will allow it serve viewers on the other side of the mountainous terrain between Price and Provo, Utah.
The petition warrants consideration, Kreisman said, and a Comment Date will be established to be 30 days after publication of the Notice of Proposed Rulemaking in the Federal Register. The reply comments are due 45 days after such publication.
KCBU became a Gray property through a swap of stations between the company and Brian and Patricia Lane’s Marquee Broadcasting.
