Gray Television enjoys a presence in Ohio’s largest market, Cleveland-Akron, thanks to its ownership of CBS affiliate WOIO-19 and WUAB-43, the CW Network affiliate — former Raycom Media stations.
Now, Gray is expanding in the DMA by adding the property found on virtual Channel 6.
The station Gray is acquiring is WLFM-LD 6, and the seller is Murray Hill Broadcasting.
The deal is valued at $1,655,000, and did not involve a broker.
Murray Hill is tied to Paul Koplin, of Venture Technologies Group. His operation was heavily invested in the use of Channel 6 facilities as audio-first FMs that benefited from the transposed audio signal found in pre-ATSC 3.0 times on 87.7 MHz.
Today, WLFM is a Jewelry Television affiliate. But, until June 30, 2020, it was the home of a regional Mexican audio service branded as “La Mega 87.7.” It is now an online-only operation.
