Gray doubles in Dothan with LPTV

SoldOne of the strategies adopted by Gray Television Group of late is the addition of low power outlets in strategic locations, and the Dothan AL DMA is the scene of the latest acquisition, WDON-LP.

Gray is active in the market with WTVY-TV, which is primarily a CBS affiliate and also carries programming from CW and MNT on digital side-channels.

The seller is New Moon Communications LLC, headed by Darnell Washington. Washington acquired the station, along with LPTV outlets in Jackson TN, Jonesboro AR and Ottumwa IA from MMTC for $12,004 pursuant to an FCC application dated 11/30/10. MMTC had received them as a donation from Trinity Broadcasting Network.

Washington will eclipse the amount he paid for all four by a factor of five (almost) for just the one in Dothan – the price for WDON will be $60K cash.
