Fresh off a Senate Commerce Committee gathering that saw Democrats gang up on Chairman Brendan Carr by vociferously condemning his leadership, the House E&C Committee will be holding its own FCC Oversight Hearing next week.
Republican Congressman Brett Guthrie of Kentucky. Chairman of the House Committee on Energy and Commerce, and Congressman Richard Hudson (R-N.C.), Chairman of the Subcommittee on Communications and Technology, announced Wednesday that they’ll convene a hearing focused on “Oversight of the Federal Communications Commission.”
The session, likely to feature Democrats echoing the sentiments of their Senate peers regarding the aggressive stance Carr has taken on a series of polarizing issues, is scheduled for January 14 at 10:15am Eastern.
For the GOP leaders, ensuring “every American has access to next-generation communication technologies” is a priority topic fueling their discussion.
In a joint statement, Guthrie and Hudson said, “As the Committee with jurisdiction over the FCC, we conduct regular oversight to maintain the agency’s focus on the issues that matter most to our constituents. We look forward to hearing from FCC Chairman Brendan Carr, along with Commissioners Anna Gomez and Olivia Trusty, about their efforts to close the digital divide, secure our communications networks, and advance American leadership in wireless innovation.”
