FTC holding event on online/mobile advertising

Advertising may be annoying to some, but when it’s on a digital platform, it can threaten an individual’s privacy. For that reason, the FTC is holding an all-day public workshop to look into the matter with an eye toward updating the rules.

The session is scheduled for Wednesday 5/30/12 from 8:30 AM-5:00 PM Eastern.

The FTC stated, “The workshop discussion will explore best practices for advertising and privacy disclosures. It will be used by Commission staff to update the Dot Com Disclosures guidance so that it better illustrates how businesses can provide clear and conspicuous disclosures in the current online and mobile world. Any revisions will be consistent with the goals of the original guidelines and will continue to emphasize that consumer protection laws apply equally to online and mobile marketers, and to other media. The FTC began seeking input for revising Dot Com Disclosures last year.”

Topics of discussion include:
Panel 1: Universal and Cross-Platform Advertising Disclosures
Panel 2: Social Media Advertising Disclosures
Panel 3: Mobile Advertising Disclosures
Panel 4: Mobile Privacy Disclosures
