FOX 'American Idol' Wednesday scores another victory

With a one-hour AMERICAN IDOL audition episode and an original HUMAN TARGET, FOX ranked #1 across the board last night and outperformed the next highest rated network by +89% in the adult demo ((5.3/14 vs. 2.8/8 for ABC) and +52% in Total Viewers (16.0 vs. 10.5 Mil for CBS).    


AMERICAN IDOL:  Posted an 8.3/23, retaining 92% of last Wednesday’s performance and beating last Thursday’s telecast by +11% in the adult demo.

In Total Viewers, AMERICAN IDOL retained 94% of last Wednesday’s performance and grew over Thursday by +8%.
     
AMERICAN IDOL won its 8p hour in all key demos and outperformed the combined 4-net competition in the hour by +66% in A18-49 and +25% in Total Viewers.   

AMERICAN IDOL was the highest rated program of the night and beat the #2 program of the night by +66% in A18-49 (vs. Modern Family) and +66% in Total Viewers  (vs. Criminal Minds)  

Year over year, AMERICAN IDOL retained 92% of its equivalent episode last year in A18-49 (8.3/23 vs. 9.0/23 on 2/2/10) and 96% in Total Viewers (23.7 vs. 24.7 Mil.)

HUMAN TARGET:  2.4/6, down -8% vs. 2/02/11, but up +9% from its prior season average with originals.       

Competition

Following The Middle (2.6/7, flat), ABC’s Better with You (2.0/5) dropped -9% from its last original while Modern Family gained +9% with a 5.0/13. At 930p, new comedy Mr. Sunshine premiered with a 3.7/10, outperforming Cougar Town’s prior average in the time period by +9%, but dropping -26% from its Modern Family lead-in. Closing out the night, Off the Map (1.9/5) was flat with its last original.

On CBS, the finale of Live to Dance matched last week’s series low (0.9/3). Criminal Minds (3.7/10) at 9pm was up +16% from its last original, while Blue Bloods (2.3/6) finished the night up +44% from its last original, which had a repeat lead-in.

NBC aired Minute to Win It (1.8/5, down -25%) and Law & Order: SVU (2.6/7, down 10%).
