The Audio Division Chief within the FCC’s Media Bureau has granted the request from the owner of a Class A FM at 97.9 MHz to move it a little closer to greater San Antonio.
The approval by Al Shuldiner means KQSA-FM is clear to move its city of license to Pearsall, Tex., from Batesville, Tex., and change the station’s transmitter location as well.
Batesville retains a local service, as KRZU-FM is licensed to the municipality.
For Carlos López, KQSA’s owner, the move is the result of changing demographics in Zavala County, within the Uvalde, Tex., metropolitan statistical area. He told the FCC that Batesville’s population has declined by 35.49% over the past five years, while Pearsall’s population is growing.
Pearsall is located on Interstate 75, one hour south of Alamo Heights.
KQSA airs a Tejano format.
