FCC Puts Technical Restrictions On The Eventual ‘End’ Replacement

On February 3, 2017, Entercom Communications agreed to surrender the license of KDND-FM 107.9 in Sacramento — a Top 40 station shrouded in controversy due to the January 2007 “Hold Your Wee For A Wii” contest that resulted in the death of a 28-year-old finalist.

The move removed any potential hurdles in winning regulatory approval of Entercom’s tax-free merger with CBS Radio — leading the now-defunct KDND-FM to cease transmissions just past 11:59 p.m. Pacific on Tuesday, Feb. 7, 2017.

Now, exactly two years later, the FCC has provided a “clarification” concerning a Construction Permit being offered in Auction 106 that will bring a brand-new radio station to the facility formerly used by KDND.
