It’s nearly over, broadcasters.
Round 2 of Stage 4 of the FCC’s Forward Auction came to a close at 4 p.m. Eastern on Wednesday (1/18), and thanks to bidding from wireless companies in the top 40 PEAs, the Final Stage Rule has finally been met.
With a clearing target of $10.05 billion set in Stage 4 of the Reverse Auction, Round 2 concluded with auction proceeds of $18,208,164,087. This means that the incentive auction will close once Stage 4 concludes, with a clearing target of 84 MHz and 70 MHz in licensed spectrum.
The catalyst for reaching this point? Interest in two chunks of spectrum in Houston, in addition to a pair of spectrum offerings in Jacksonville, Fla.
