Roberto Lemmen Meyer, known as a Mexican businessman, invested in a low-powered TV station serving Arizona’s second-largest market in 2012. It’s served as an Azteca América affiliate, and upon its April 1989 sign-on was a Telemundo affiliate for three years.

Now, this station’s continued broadcasts en español will see the arrival of such programs as Tengo Talento, Mucho Talento and Rica Famosa Latina on its principal broadcast signal.

KUDF-14.1 is now the home of EstrellaTV in Tucson.

This secures a spot on Cox Cable Channel 61 for Estrella Media, as EstrellaTV programming shifts from KUDF-14.2.

For Estrella Media, that’s a significant upgrade for the Spanish-language broadcast TV network.

“Adding KUDF’s primary channel to the EstrellaTV affiliate portfolio allows us to expand our network’s reach in the Tucson community,” said Peter Markham, Estrella Media’s CEO. “We are bullish about serving the important Hispanic and Spanish language audiences in the U.S. and growing our relationship with KUDF is key to our growth in Tucson and the southern Arizona area.”

KUDF produces 10 hours of original content each week in addition to broadcasting the EstrellaTV network programming schedule. Staff produce a fully-local Spanish-language weekday and weekend newscasts, covering local and regional content within Arizona and Sonora, Mexico. They also produce the weekend magazine shows “Arriba Tucson” and “Nuestra Hora con Lety.”

Now on KUDF-14.2 is the Telemax network, which serves Sonora, Mexico.

EstrellaTV competes against stations airing Univision, UniMás, and Telemundo.
