As predicted (1/16/09 RBR #10), Entravision Communications has introduced its new “El Gato” format to the LA market on KDLD/KDLE 103.1 FM—replacing the Indie 103.1 simulcast (Indie remains online—see below).

“El Gato” is a newly developed contemporary Mexican Regional format created by Entravision’s radio programming team. It plays rhythmic up-tempo music from popular artists such as Intocable, K-Paz, Banda El Recodo, Los Horoscopos and Jenni Rivera.  Afternoon drive will feature the return of the well-known Entravision show “Erazno y La Chokolata.”   In addition to “El Gato,” in both Los Angeles and El Paso, “Erazno y La Chokolata” program is currently broadcast on all of Entravision’s Tricolor stations.

Entravision’s Indie Online (www.indie1031.com), confirmed that the famous programs and personalities from Indie 103.1 are part of the new Indie Online programming lineup.  Music legends Dave Navarro, Henry Rollins and Joe Escalante are among the hosts of Indie’s well-known specialty shows who will continue to provide their unique programs to Indie listeners around the world on www.indie1031.com

Recognized as the Country’s Best Radio Station by Rolling Stone, Indie 103.1 recently reinvented itself as Indie Online, ceasing its broadcast on traditional radio airwaves to return to its original mission of delivering the best in cutting edge music over the Internet.

The Indie Online programming schedule keeps several Indie 103.1 favorites including:

Dark Matter with Dave Navarro
Barely Legal with Joe Escalante
Passport Approved
Harmony In my Head with Henry Rollins
Complete Control with Joe Sib
Neon Noise with Paul V
Chaos with Full Metal Jackie
Reggae Smoke In with Native Wayne

“We are taking Indie 103.1 to the Internet where we can play by our own rules, which works well for Indie 103.1’s selective audience,” said Jeffery Liberman, President of Entravision’s radio division. “This could only be done by taking our unique format to the Web, where new music thrives and where we can continue to innovate and break new ground like we’ve done since the launch of Indie. This station has a very highly regarded place in the global music community and this move online preserves what we’ve created while keeping Indie’s original culture and spirit intact. The revolution is alive and well with www.indie1031.com.”
