Entravision: An AI On-Air Experiment Is Working For ‘José’

When it comes to the use of artificial intelligence to helm a radio program, Entravision Communications has one simple answer: Yes way, José!

The publicly traded company’s radio division, now under the leadership of former L.A. Sr. VP/GM Eduardo Maytorena, is taking AI-powered air talent to another level. That’s because Al Aire y Sin Permiso pairs host GeeGee Guzman with artificial intelligence-generated “personality” Coyotec at KLYY-FM “José 97.5” in Riverside-San Bernardino.

KLYY’s signal also reaches much of the Los Angeles basin and Orange County, and Entravision says Coyotec has been successful in luring younger Latino male listeners.

Coyotec debuted in September under Maytorena and Executive VP of AI Strategy LeaAnna Hernandez. A two-hour show expansion was seen in April; Entravision said this led to a big gain in Hispanic Men 25-54.

The introduction of Coyotec is notable. Not only is it the first Spanish-language personality generated by AI, but it marks just the third major deployment of a full-time AI on-air talent, following the introduction of “AI Ashley” on KBFF “Live 95.5” in Portland, Ore., under Alpha Media ownership and AI versions of veteran air personalities at Zelus Media Group’s “94.9 The Zone,” heard in the SanTan Valley of Phoenix.

In contrast, iHeartMedia in December 2025 formally banned AI-generated on-air personalities, using the phrase “Guaranteed Human” as part of station branding and promotional announcements.

GeeGee Guzman is pleased with Coyotec so far. “We’re breaking completely new ground,” Guzman said. “It’s a space where tech meets the streets of LA, keeping our audience locked into a conversation that literally no one else is having.”

Hernandez commented, “At its core, this show is about possibility. We want listeners to feel curious about technology, empowered to explore it, and inspired by what it can help them achieve. Latinos have always been creators, innovators, and resilient problem-solvers. Al Aire y Sin Permiso celebrates that spirit and reminds us that we’re not just participating in the future — we’re helping shape it.”

Maytorena framed the results as proof of a new model for radio, adding, “For years, radio has been sold as inventory. We believe the future is about experiences, storytelling, and audience connection. The Latino audience has always embraced great personalities, culture, and innovation. What makes Al Aire y Sin Permiso so exciting is that it brings all three together. We’re creating a new model where technology expands creativity, human personalities remain at the center of the experience, and advertisers have new ways to connect authentically with consumers.”

While KLYY’s overall ratings trended slightly downward over the last several months in Los Angeles, the station dominates the Riverside-San Bernardino ratings as measured by Nielsen Audio.
