MIAMI BEACH — The Hispanic Radio Conference is proud to announce that the Medallas de Cortez Distinguished Leadership Award will be presented this year to multi-Grammy and Presidential Medal of Freedom recipient Emilio Estefan.
The award ceremony will cap off the first day of the Hispanic Radio Conference, which is being presented March 25-26 at the Intercontinental at Doral in Miami.
Two-times-Grammy-nominated BMI Latin artist Elsten Torres will perform a musical tribute to Estefan as part of the presentation. The Medallas ceremony will be followed by an opening reception.
In making the announcement, Deborah Parenti, publisher of Hispanic Radio Conference media partner Radio + Television Business Report, said, “The Medallas de Cortez Distinguished Leadership Award recognizes an individual whose service and commitment to humanity raise the bar and inspires others to follow. No individual represents that characteristic more than Emilio Estefan. Over the years, his philanthropic work has encompassed multiple causes, including education, health, and cultural development.”
Estefan said, “One of the most important aspects of my career is the relationships that we have created within the radio industry for so many years. I feel honored to receive this recognition from all the programmers and DJs that I am fortunate to call friends. Thank you all for helping us spread our music and culture worldwide.”
Estefan is a world-renowned music, television, and film producer who has been instrumental in shaping, developing, and directing the careers of his superstar wife, Gloria; as well as Shakira, Ricky Martin, Jennifer Lopez, Marc Anthony, and Jon Secada, among many others.
Emilio Estefan has achieved incredible success throughout his career, earning 19 Grammy Awards. Most recently, the Library of Congress honored Emilio and Gloria Estefan with the distinguished Gershwin Prize for Popular Song.
As a recipient of the Medallas de Cortez Distinguished Leadership Award, Estefan joins a select group of peers; the award is not presented every year. Previous recipients include Henry Cisneros, Jose Feliciano, Geraldo Rivera, Juanes and Francisco Montero.
