MIAMI — Following its Spanish-language coverage of the FIFA World Cup in November, Ray Warren retired as President of Telemundo Deportes, a role he held for six of his 15 years at Comcast NBCUniversal.
On Thursday, NBCUniversal Telemundo Enterprises formally announced who will be taking the reins at Telemundo Deportes.
Assuming leadership of the sports division of the Spanish-language broadcast television network is Eli Velazquez, who presently serves as Executive Vice President of Sports.
Velazquez reports to Beau Ferrari, Chairman of NBCUniversal Telemundo Enterprises. He’s been associated with Telemundo for more than two decades and will lead Telemundo Deportes by gaining oversight of sports production, programming, acquisitions, operations and content. In this role, he is also responsible for the management and execution of major Spanish-language event coverage, including FIFA World Cup properties, the Olympic Games, NFL Sunday Night Football, U.S. Soccer Federation matches, Premier League and Liga MX’s Chivas de Guadalajara. Velazquez will continue to work closely with NBC Sports and Peacock.

Velazquez joined Telemundo in 1999 and progressed through leadership roles including Senior Producer, Director of Sports and Vice President of Sports.
