Earl Arbuckle dead at 61

Fox Television Stations Sr. VP of Engineering Earl Arbuckle suffered a heart attack Monday (8/29) and died. He had held the top position at the Fox O&Os for 16 months, following a long career in broadcast engineering.


Arbuckle had joined the Fox stations in 1997, just in time to oversee the digital transition. He’d earlier spent 18 years with Tribune Broadcasting, including 16 at WPIX-TV New York.

In addition to being a broadcast engineer, Arbuckle was also a Ham Radio operator. Ham Radio operators are knows for their work maintaining communications in emergency situations, but a Ham blog praised him for doing the same in his regular job. It noted that Just prior to his passing, Earl Arbuckle had worked through the weekend of August 27th and 28th on hurricane Irene contingencies for the Fox owned stations in New York City, Washington DC, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and Boston, Massachusetts.
