Don’t text and drive

Sen. Charles Schumer (D-NY) is one of a quartet of Democrats introducing a bill threatening to withhold hundreds of millions of dollars in highway funding to states. To avoid such punishment, a state must enact legislation outlawing the practice of text messaging while driving. Schumer said the practice has been shown to be far more dangerous than talking on the phone while driving or even driving under the influence.

RBR/TVBR observation: Do we really need a law prohibiting every stupid thing that you should not do while driving? Do we have to specifically ban applying makeup, knitting, throwing darts at a target in the back seat, juggling and performing open heart surgery? Officer, please – if you see texting drivers, pull them over and hit them with a reckless/inattentive citation. Drivers, please – just turn on the radio.
