DOJ Looks Into WAGT Operations

TV RemoteThe Justice Department is looking into an injunction granted to Media General to take back operations of Augusta, Ga. NBC affiliate WAGT from new owner Gray Television.

The FCC asked the DOJ to look into the matter after Gray began broadcasting on the channel.

When the Gray acquisition of Schurz closed, Gray began simulcasting a newscast on WAGT produced by the CBS affiliate, reports TVSpy.

Media General sued last week, saying it had a contract to operate the Schurz station until 2020.

A federal judge granted Media General an injunction, so it could air local news on WAGT again.

By seeking an injunction, Media General is in conflict with a commission order, it told the DOJ.
