DJ charged with $25K in unemployment fraud

GavelMark Thomas, who used to work in TV and the performing arts in Wilkes-Barre, PA was charged 4/3 with taking advantage of unemployment benefits. Detectives say while he was collecting unemployment, he was also working at a car dealership and at Entercom’s WDMT-FM The Mountain 102.3 FM.


Paperwork filed by county detectives in the Luzerne County Courthouse says Thomas received more than $25,000 Dollars in unemployment compensation while he was working two different jobs. He turned himself in at an arraignment at a district magistrate’s office in Wilkes-Barre.

Detectives say Thomas filed for unemployment in 2010 and received more than $25,000 in benefits through 2011. That’s when unemployment workers started an investigation into possible fraud.

Officials at F.M. Kirby Center for the Performing Arts say Thomas used to be the PD there. He also worked as a VP at WVIA-TV in that market for more than eight years, reported WNEP-TV. Thomas was released on bail.
