Dish dumps Weather Channel

The latest fee dispute has Dish Network dropping The Weather Channel, which NBC Universal, Bain Capital and The Blackstone Group bought in 2008 for $3.5 billion. In its place, Dish will offer subscribers its own The Weather Cast.

Rather than focus on the fee dispute, Dish insisted that it is making the change because The Weather Channel “recently moved away from weather reporting to a mix of movies and other entertainment-focused programming.”

“Our customers always tell us that the only thing they want in a weather channel is weather reporting. We believe The Weather Cast is the best available weather service in America,” said Dave Shull, Senior Vice President of Programming for Dish.
