David Donovan To Exit NYSBA At Year’s End

It may be just days into 2026, but the New York State Broadcasters Association has already started the process of finding the individual that will begin leading the advocacy group for radio and TV stations across the Empire State come 2027. That’s because its longtime head is “stepping aside” at the end of this year.

After 15 years leading the group, David Donovan will step down as President. While he will continue to oversee the association’s government relations work, a search committee has already started the process of identifying his successor.

“David is doing an outstanding job, but he believes the time has come to turn over management of the Association to the next generation,” NYSBA Chairman Chris Musial said on Wednesday.

Before joining NYSBA, Donovan spent a decade as President of the Association for Maximum Service Television. Before that, he served as Vice President of Legal and Legislative Affairs for the Association of Local Television Stations. Earlier in his career, Donovan held several key roles at the FCC, including serving as Media Legal Adviser to Commissioner James H. Quello. Donovan also held positions within the Media Bureau’s Policy and Rules Division. He began his legal career at Muldoon & Sullivan in Boston.

Donovan said, “It has been a great run. Our goal is to bring someone on board earlier in the year to have a smooth transition. NYSBA has an outstanding Board of Directors and the best staff of any association in America.”
