Curtis Media Group Adds In Coastal Carolina

Don Curtis has made a name for himself as a radio and digital media owner dedicated to North Carolina. After 50-plus years in broadcasting, he’s still as committed as ever. His Curtis Media Group is expanding by acquiring an AM and two FMs in a coastal city.

Thanks to a deal with CDV Broadcasting, Curtis subsidiary Eastern Airwaves LLC is acquiring WAVQ-AM 1400 and FM translator W291DO at 106.1 MHz and FM translator W238CF at 95.5 MHz in Jacksonville, N.C.

The purchase price is $270,000, and a 10% deposit is being held by Brooks Pierce as escrow agent.

Of the total, $150,000 is attributable to the assets of WACQ and W291DO; the remaining $120,000 is associated with the assets of W238CF.

There is no broker or finder involved in this deal.

WAVQ offers an Oldies format, while W238CF is already tied to Curtis — it rebroadcasts Urban WIKS-FM 101.9 “Kiss FM” in New Bern, N.C.

This is expected to continue, as Curtis will add WAVQ to a suite of brands that includes Kiss FM, WXNR “The New Hot FM,” “Beach Blues & Boogie” WELS-FM, Rock WSFL-FM, and Urban AC WMGV-FM “V103.3.”
