Legendary Houston DJ “Crash” (Dennis Maurice) Collins was best known for helping to launch KLOL-FM, but he was heard on five other radio stations in the market over the years as well. He has now lost a battle with prostate cancer at age 68.

Collins played bass guitar in various bands and even performed on recordings by some big-name artists, but his life-long love was radio. Crash was active on the air for over four decades, in addition to KLOL being heard on KUHF, KILT, KULF, KNUZ and KZFX.

Crash was inducted into the Texas Radio Hall of Fame last year.

Friends have organized Bash for Crash (www.bashforcrash.org), a benefit event for his family, which will be held November 13 at the Concert Pub Galleria.
