As RBR+TVBR previously reported, Bob Longo is retiring at the end of 2024 as the head of Cox Media Group‘s television station in Jacksonville, and as the leader of its joint service partner owned by Hoffman Communications.

Now, CMG has announced who is taking Longo’s role.

Earning the role is Omesh Somaru, and he will assume the role of VP/General Manager of WJAX-TV in Jacksonville, effective January 1, while also taking on oversight of the services provided to Hoffman-owned WFOX-TV.

Somaru rises from Director of Sales for the stations serving Florida’s First Coast.

“Jacksonville is an important market for CMG, and we were looking for a strong leader with deep local experience to continue our momentum there,” said CMG President/CEO Dan York. ”Omesh was the right choice, and under his leadership, I know our people, our clients and our business will continue to thrive.”

Somaru is a 25-year industry veteran and has been with CMG for 17 years. He has worked at CMG’s stations in Orlando and at former CMG-owned television stations in Memphis and San Francisco, respectively. In Jacksonville, Somaru has played a key role in launching Telemundo Jacksonville and Action Sports Jax.

Somaru completed the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) Broadcast Leadership Training Program in 2019.
