The licensee of a Class B AM radio station serving an area of Puerto Rico due west of metropolitan San Juan has entered into a Consent Decree with the FCC Media Bureau’s Audio Division Chief that puts to an end a probe into an unauthorized transfer of control.
A Radio Company Inc. signed the decree, with Al Shuldiner of the FCC concluding the agency’s review of an ownership change for WEGA-AM 1350 in Vega Baja, Puerto Rico.
What happened? Ricardo Angulo, who held 100% of the licensee’s voting stock, transferred it all to Mr. Eddie Rivera, effective January 1, 2023. This was done without prior Commission consent, and it was not until February 21, 2024, that A Radio Company filed the Voluntary Transfer Application, disclosing its delinquency.
As such, A Radio Company is agreeing to a $5,000 “voluntary contribution” to the U.S. Treasury to resolve the investigation.
Serving as the licensee’s legal counsel in this matter is John Wells King of Jacksonville, Fla.
It is also notable that Angulo is deceased, but the transfer of his shares in WEGA transpired while he was still alive.
