Connoisseur Gives Away A Long Island AM

A 1370 kHz on the dial, from a tower just off Patchogue Bay in the heart of Long Island, N.Y., is a 67-year-old station that has been paired with its FM sibling with the same call letters ever since it started broadcasting.

The stations went from Suffolk Broadcasting ownership to the Island Broadcasting System in 1963, to Chancellor Communications in 1997, and in 2000 were snatched up by what is today iHeartRadio — until their placement in the Aloha Station Trust.

In May 2014, the pair came out of the trust, acquired by Qantum Communications — and immediately sold to Connoisseur Media.

Now, Connoisseur’s twins are splitting up for the first time, with WALK-AM going to a new owner, for free.
