As students across North America head back to school (if they haven’t done so already) and many of the radio industry’s leaders travel to Austin, Texas for the 2017 Radio Show, FCC Chairman Ajit Pai will be heading to the Lone Star State to see first-hand what wrath Hurricane Harvey brought upon broadcast media in its path.

Pai will visit Texas on Tuesday (9/5) to inspect the damage caused by the storm, and meet with those engaged in recovery efforts.

“Working in close coordination with the Department of Homeland Security, the FCC will do everything it can to help restore communications services after this terrible storm,” Pai said.  “I look forward to meeting those on the ground in Texas and seeing firsthand what needs to be done to make sure that those affected can get back on their feet as quickly as possible.”

Additional details regarding Chairman Pai’s visit to Texas will be released closer to the trip.

In Austin, the 2017 Radio Show is on schedule for a Sept. 5 start, with pre-sessions including The Connected Car Experience leading in to the Welcome Reception at 5pm at the J.W. Marriott Austin Lone Star Ballroom. Entertainment from the Peterson Brothers is on tap.

Two full days of sessions are set for Sept. 6-7, with Pai delivering the keynote address at the Radio Luncheon scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 6.

Pop star Demi Lovato closing out the show Sept. 8 with a Music and Mimosas interview and performance session at 8:30am.
