A Little More ‘Acción’ In The Sunshine State

In September 2018, a forlorn AM radio station with Portuguese-language fare became the latest station to capitalize on the massive growth of the Spanish-speaking population in Central Florida. And, it is a certainty that "The Mighty 790" is involved in their future.

Gray Grabs A Tiny LPTV Property. Why?

Its a tiny town in Lewis County, Mo., that had under 550 residents in the 2010 U.S. Census. It's important enough of a locale for Gray Television to make a deal for a low-powered TV station based in this tiny burgh. There's a perfectly good reason it is buying the facility, when one looks at a map.

"The American Music Fairness Act" arrived last week. It looks not so dissimilar to previous attempts to get legislation favoring recording acts passed by Congress, except for one big difference: a tiered royalty structure based on a radio station's annual revenue. Is that enough to woo Members of the House and Senate? Early indicators point to a resounding "No."
