Community service keeps broadcasters relevant
There was a time not so long ago when broadcasters enjoyed an exclusive franchise. Cable television was less a competitor and more a collaborator. The early cable TV systems merely relayed the signals of stations to areas with weak reception. Original programming for cable was non-existent with the exception of the “weather channel” where a camera scanned wind, temperature and barometric pressure readings to an instrumental music accompaniment. Fast forward to 2014:

CBS expands licensing deal with Hulu
CBS has expanded its licensing deal with Hulu to bring more content to the service. The new licensing deal brings more than 5,300 episodes of CBS shows to the Hulu Plus streaming service. The agreement covers both recent and classic shows.
Ubiquity to expand offering with ZUUS buy
The Pandora of music videos? Irvine, CA-based Ubiquity Broadcasting Corp. has entered into a non-binding deal to acquire ZUUS Media, a next generation media company operating the ZUUS multi-platform music video network. ZUUS is a music service offering 150 curated digital music video channels based on genre, decade and “mood” across mobile, tablet, web, Facebook, and connected TV platforms.
Local Radio Freedom Act gets more support
The Local Radio Freedom Act (LRFA), which opposes imposition of a new performance royalty on AM and FM radio stations, has added a bipartisan coalition of five Members of the House of Representatives as co-sponsors. The LRFA is now currently co-sponsored by 193 Members of the House and 12 Senators.
