In May 2020, he was named President/GM of the ABC Owned Television Stations’ property serving Central California. Now, he’s been tapped to succeed Wendy Granato in Houston.
Now in the top role for KTRK-13 is Mike Carr, who is departing KFSN “ABC30” after a little more than four years in Fresno.
Carr rose through the ranks at ABC30, starting as an intern. He would eventually rise to News Director, a role he held for eight years until his promotion to his most recent role. Under Carr’s ND leadership, a midday, 4pm and 10pm newscast was created.
In Fresno-Merced-Visalia, ABC30 competes largely against McClatchy Co.’s Fresno Bee and Nexstar Media Group’s “Your Central Valley” local news operation.

Calling the team at KTRK “among the best of the best,” Carr said, “California and Texas share some of the same environmental concerns like extreme heat, drought and wildfires, so I’ve worked closely with them over the years and admire their dedication to innovation, commitment to authentic storytelling, and focus on getting the facts and telling the stories that will matter most in viewers’ lives. Together, I know we will continue ABC13’s dominance on both broadcast and digital platforms while identifying new and exciting opportunities.”
In addition to his responsibilities as GM for ABC30, Carr is the co-lead of the ABC Owned Television Stations Race and Culture team, including helping to oversee the ABC News Storytellers Summit each year in partnership with ABC News.
