The newly minted Chairman of the FCC wasted no time in announcing staff appointments to the Office of the Chairman and to the Commission.
Who is the FCC’s new Chief of Staff? It’s a Michigan Law School graduate who has served as Deputy Bureau Chief and Chief of Staff of the Wireless Bureau.
Taking that role is Scott Delacourt, who will play a key role in directing FCC strategic initiatives, management, policy, and operations. He joins the FCC from Wiley Law, where he served as Partner and Chair of the Wireless Practice Group. Before that, Delacourt served in leadership positions at the FCC, including roles as Senior Counsel in the Office of General Counsel, and Legal Advisor to the Wireless Bureau Chief.
There’s also a Chief of Staff for the Office of the Chairman, and that would be Greg Watson. He will oversee all policy and strategic initiatives, communications, and operations within the Chairman’s office. Watson will also will regularly engage with senior staff in Congress and the Executive Branch at the White House.
Watson began working for then-Commissioner Carr in 2021, serving first as Policy Advisor before later becoming his Chief of Staff. As such, he’s sticking with Carr as he becomes Chairman.
Before the FCC, Greg was an advisor in the White House during President Trump’s first term. He started his career on Capitol Hill, working for Rep. Steve Scalise and the House Committee on Energy and Commerce, which maintains FCC oversight.
In another key appointment, Erin Boone will serve as Senior Counsel to Carr on matters before the Media Bureau and Enforcement Bureau. She previously served as Chief of Staff and wireless advisor to Commissioner Nathan Simington. Prior to that role, Boone served as Deputy Division Chief in the Wireless Bureau’s Competition and Infrastructure Policy Division. Erin also served in the Enforcement Bureau and Wireline Bureau, and previously worked at T-Mobile, Clearwire, and Level 3 Communications.
Meanwhile, Arpan Sura will serve as Senior Counsel to Chairman Carr on matters before the Wireless Bureau, the Space Bureau, the Office of Engineering and Technology, and the Office of International Affairs; Danielle Thumann will serve as Senior Counsel to FCC Chairman Carr on matters before the Wireline Bureau, the Public Safety and Homeland Security Bureau, and the Consumer and Governmental Affairs Bureau.
