Can Alleged Fox Corp. Actions Prevent A Philly License Renewal?

0

PHILADELPHIA — At 330 Market Street, the Fox Television Stations-owned WTXF “FOX 29” is a prominent fixture in the Old City, with a home just steps away from Independence Mall. It remains a highly popular over-the-air station in a market where it competes against owned-and-operated stations from CBS, ABC and NBC.

If it were up to a Washington, D.C.-based “non-partisan, all-volunteer, grassroots organization focused on strengthening a free and independent media in the public interest,” FOX 29 would no longer be owned by Fox. And, it has petitioned the FCC seeking to deny WTXF’s license renewal.

Why? The Media and Democracy Project made the action based on its belief that senior management of FTS parent Fox Corporation “manipulated its audience by knowingly broadcasting false news about the 2020 election.”

Supporting the group — outspoken former Fox executive Preston Padden.
