In a four-page order released early Friday morning, Sacramento-based Chief District Judge Troy L. Nunley has modified and extended a Temporary Restraining Order preventing Nexstar Media Group from integrating all of the assets acquired in its merger with TEGNA for seven days.
This gives Nunley more time to weigh a preliminary injunction against Nexstar, which eight state Attorneys General and DirecTV had been pushing for and was largely expected to arrive as soon as today, given the expiration of the TRO.
Now, the TRO will expire on April 17 at 6pm Pacific — alleviating any immediate concerns of how a preliminary injunction would impact not only Nexstar but perhaps place an immediate chilling effect on broadcast media transactions just days before the start of the NAB Show in Las Vegas.
