Bustos Converts LMA To A Purchase In Portland

He’s an iconic figure in Hispanic radio, and after selling all of his radio stations decided to get back into radio ownership. Today, Amador Bustos and his Bustos Media owns stations in such markets as Portland, Ore.

Now, Bustos is growing its stable of radio properties in Oregon by acquiring a property it has been leasing for “La Pantera.”

Soon to be included as an owned property in the Portland station mix for Bustos Media is KWBY-AM 940, licensed to Woodburn, Ore.

KWBY’s signal covers metropolitan Portland, and vineyards across the Willamette River Valley. It reaches such communities as McMinnville and Salem, the Oregon state capital. That’s where KWBY has a 250-watt FM translator at 93.3 MHz, K227DU, and together they are offering Spanish-language listeners another take on the regional Mexican musical varieties popular in this region of the Pacific Northwest.

Until now, KWBY and K227DU have been owned by Ed Distell and leased to Bustos. With the FCC’s blessing, this will change as Bustos is offering $100,000 for the properties.

A 10% downpayment has been made to Distell by Bustos.

Once complete, KWBY will become a sibling of KGDD-AM in Oregon City; KOOR-AM in Milwaukie; KZZR-FM in Government Camp; KSND-FM in Monmouth; and KQRR-AM in Mt. Angel, Ore.
