In broadcast TV, sports partnerships are becoming more numerous than ever, as station owners seek to distinguish their over-the-air properties by snagging play-by-play rights for a wide variety of leagues and teams.
AM and FM radio remain equally important for pro and collegiate sports, and a new partnership will pair University of South Florida Athletics with a group of stations owned by Beasley Media Group.
It is a multi-year agreement, starting with the 2025-2026 season, with Bulls Athletic Properties.
Interestingly, Classic Hits WRBQ “Q105” will become the flagship home for USF Bulls football. At the same time, W295CF at 106.9 MHz, branded as “Playa” and covering Spanish-speaking audiences in Pinellas County and the City of Tampa, will offer coverage of the Bulls en español starting in the 2026-2026 season. That said, there is a possibility select games in the upcoming season will be heard on “Playa.”
There’s more, as USF Athletics audio content will be featured on WJBR-AM 1010, offering an all-podcast spoken word format.
“As we enter a new era of college athletics, the University of South Florida is committed to expanding our reach and deepening our connection with Bulls fans.” said USF Interim Vice President of Athletics Jay Stroman. “This exciting partnership with Beasley Media Group achieves both — introducing a groundbreaking Spanish-language broadcast and leveraging one of the Bay area’s most powerful, legacy FM signals to bring Bulls football to fans across the region.”
Beasley/Tampa VP/Market Manager Ron deCastro added, “We’re proud to team up with USF Athletics to deliver Bulls Football on Q105, one of the most iconic signals in Tampa Bay. This partnership is about more than just game coverage—it’s about connecting with fans, celebrating school pride, and expanding USF’s reach across our diverse community, including through the historic launch of Spanish-language broadcasts on Playa 106.9.”
The USF Football Pregame Show will continue its two-hour format, with the first hour—featuring exclusive interviews with coordinators and players—available on Bulls Unlimited and on-demand via GoUSFBulls.com, Spotify, Apple, Amazon, and other streaming platforms, with additional coverage on WJBR-AM.
The second hour and a 30-minute postgame show will air on Q105 and on Bulls Unlimited.
In the Tampa-St. Petersburg market, the University of South Florida competes for collegiate sports fans against Florida State University, the University of Florida and the University of Central Florida.
