Buddy Tucker Association Bids Farewell To Mobile Stations

In December 2006, RBR+TVBR reported on a $300,000 transaction that gave the Buddy Tucker Association, a non-secular broadcast operation, ownership of a second AM radio station in the Mobile market.

By late November 2020, however, word surfaced that these Christian-themed siblings would cease broadcasting. Various reasons were tied to the decision, which came following the 2018 passing of Mr. Tucker.

Now, the AMs — plus an FM translator — are on their way to a new owner.

WMOB-AM in Mobile and WTOF-AM in Bay Minette, Ala., along with FM translator W239CW, are being spun to UM Enterprise LLC.

The buyer is led by Dave Minard.

And, he’s getting the silent stations for just $100.

Judy Adams signed off on the sale on behalf of the association.

On Nov. 22, 2020, WMOB went dark under an STA, a decision made on behalf of Buddy Tucker’s widow, Lavaughn Tucker. WTOF ceased broadcasting three weeks earlier due to “technical difficulties.” Speaking to Gulf Coast Media, veteran employee Debby Day explained that she was in her 90s and no longer able to keep up with the expense of running the stations.

The COVID-19 pandemic also played a significant role in the demise of the properties, as contributions and underwriting support declined dramatically over much of 2020.
