SANTA MONICA, CALIF. — In the distant past, it was Southern California’s top-rated spoken word station. Today, KABC-790 is seeking to rekindle some of the magic it enjoyed when Michael Jackson — the talk host, not the singer — brought listeners by teaming up with the University of California, Los Angeles.
The Cumulus Media Talk station has signed a multi-year agreement with the UCLA Bruins to be the new official radio broadcast home of the Westwood-based school’s football and men’s basketball.
This makes KABC Radio the flagship station of the UCLA Bruins Audio Network, moving from iHeartMedia’s KLAC-AM 570.
Broadcasts will also be available on SiriusXM and the KABC Radio app.
In addition to the full football and men’s basketball schedules, KABC-AM will also air four UCLA women’s basketball games in the winter and a total of 28 episodes of the “Bruin Insider Show” on Thursdays at 7pm. The “Bruin Insider Show” provides exclusive interviews and insight on UCLA Football and Men’s Basketball, along with other UCLA sports.
KABC Radio PD Luis Segura commented, “With KABC’s powerhouse signal and UCLA’s legacy teams, Southern Californians will get some of the best in sports programming starting Fall 2025! We are tremendously excited to partner with UCLA as the new official broadcast home of Bruins football and men’s basketball and look forward to turning up the volume on Bruins coverage for our passionate 790 KABC listeners and Southern California sports fans.”
KABC-AM’s ratings were not made available in the most recent Nielsen Audio report for Los Angeles, either because Cumulus is a non-subscriber or the station’s ratings were too small to place in the results.
KABC is Cumulus Media’s lone Los Angeles radio station, as it sold KLOS-FM to Meruelo Media several years ago. Cumulus owns stations in nearby Oxnard-Ventura and Santa Barbara, Calif.
