It boasts a FM translator at 105.5 MHz with programming fed from a Class D AM that during daylight hours enjoys a 50kw signal audible from Jupiter to Orlando’s easternmost suburbs.
Until now, it’s been owned by Bruce Maduri and his Genesis Communications. Pending FCC approval, that’s about to change.
WIXC-AM 1060 in Titusville, Fla., serving the Space Coast of Florida, is being sold along with W288DZ in Titusville.
The buyer is MARC Radio, the Gainesville-based operation led by Roger W. Holler.
The deal expands MARC’s reach to the eastern portion of the Orlando-Daytona Beach-Melbourne DMA, which is vast and include three distinct radio markets due to signal contours and historical coverage areas.
As such, Melbourne-Titusville-Cocoa Beach is rated independently of Orlando. For locals, this makes radio a vital source of information, especially as Brevard County, Fla., is one of the nation’s fastest-growing locales. With TV stations an hour to the west and Florida TODAY, the Gannett-owned daily, operating at a fraction of its former budget, MARC now has an opportunity to double-up on its revenue potential there.
That’s because MARC worked out an arrangement with the Smith family one year ago to acquire Classic Hits WSBH-FM 98.5, licensed to Satellite Beach, for $3.85 million.
Now, WIXC and W288DZ are poised to serve as a flanker to WSBH, with MARC paying $650,000 for the AM and FM translator … plus or minus any “permitted adjustments and set-offs.” MARC will also pay $100,000 to enforce a noncompete agreement, prohibiting Maduri from engaging in operations that would interfere with MARC once it assumes ownership of WIXC and W288DZ.
A $100,000 escrow deposit is being held by Winter Park, Fla.-based attorney Frank Hamner. Serving as the seller’s broker is Hadden and Associates.
