‘BIN’ Gets A New Home In Hampton Roads

Five years and one month ago, BIN: Black Information Network launched on a group of AM radio stations owned by iHeartMedia and one of its full-power FMs. In June 2025, that FM serving the Tidewater region of Virginia scored a 1.1 share in the Norfolk ratings, as measured by Nielsen Audio.

Alas, BIN has just moved to a smaller signal to make room for a new format at WNOH-FM.

BIN, which superserves African-American audiences with spoken word programming, has relocated from 50kw Class B WNOH to WHBT-FM 92.1, a Class C3 facility licensed to Moyock, N.C. with a tower in Chesapeake, Va.

While BIN will now be on a smaller signal, it will still reach the majority of the Norfolk-Newport News-Virginia Beach market.

What’s now on WNOH? It is stunting with all-Christmas music ahead of an official transition to new programming. For WHBT, which had a 0.8 share in the most recent ratings for Norfolk, the end of “92.1 The Beat” has come after 10 1/2 years with a classic-focused Hip-Hop presentation.

Regarding BIN’s new home, iHeartMedia/Norfolk Market President Denene Moore said, “BIN has become a vital voice in communities across the country, and we’re proud to continue that trusted news and perspective here in Norfolk. This move ensures that our listeners have access to the stories that matter most, told through a lens that reflects their experiences and voices.”

Importantly, BIN remains on an FM signal in a heavily Black marketplace as iHeartMedia readies a new format for a big facility that was previously “ALT 105.3,” competing largely against WROX “96X” and WNOR-FM.
