Bill Sours Pours Dollars Into a Mackinaw City FM

It serves one of the most beautiful locales in Michigan, and is licensed to Mitten News LLC. Pending FCC approval, however, this Mackinaw City-licensed 50kw Class C2 FM will become property of Bill Sours.

That’s because his company has just filed paperwork with the Commission signaling his agreement to purchase the property.

Sours, through his Whiskey Sours Broadcasting & Productions LLC, is acquiring WYPV-FM 94.5 from John Yob-led Mitten News LLC.

The transaction is valued at $140,000, with $15,000 placed in escrow. Legal counsel of the seller, Rhoades McKee, is the escrow agent.

The sale of WYPV comes following the March 31 silence under a STA that came with the end of a LMA between Mitten News and Blarney Stone Broadcasting, which allowed it to simulcast Rock-formatted WQON-FM 100.3 in Grayling, Mich., on WYPV. That deal was consummated in June 2020, as COVID-19 pandemic concerns led to the swift demise of “North FM,” an Adult Contemporary format installed on WYPV in November 2019.

For Yob, the sale price of WYPV is $60,000 below what he paid for the FM in November 2018.

For Sours, WYPV’s addition to his holdings comes following the closing of the sale of WBZV-FM 102.5 in Hudson, Mich., to Educational Media Foundation. Sours acquired WBZV in January 2020 from the Bob Elliot-led Friends Communications of Michigan.

And, it negates any belief that Sours’ relocation to Grand Rapids to be closer to his children meant a complete exit from broadcast ownership.
