It’s a Class B AM with a directional 50kw signal from two towers during daylight hours and three towers at night that covers eastern Massachusetts; northern Rhode Island; and southern New Hampshire. Today, it is “your live & local talk radio station.”
How local WCRN-AM stays will soon be up to Chad López and his boss, John Catsimatidis.
According to an asset purchase agreement submitted to the FCC on May 7 for its regulatory approval, the Worcester, Mass., facility is being acquired by Red Apple Media.
The seller is Carter Broadcasting Corp., led by Kurt Carberry. And he’s netting $1.45 million from the deal, which was originally finalized in mid-November 2025 but not made public until Thursday’s upload to the Commission’s LMS; an amendment accompanying the APA dated March 2, 2026 changed the terms of the deposit.
Originally, a 5% deposit ($72,500) was agreed to, in a broker-free deal. The amendment upped that deposit to $145,000, or 10% of the purchase price.
A Local Marketing Agreement is in place giving Red Apple Media control of WCRN ahead of an anticipated closing.
WCRN’s lineup includes a simulcast of the “Boston 25 Morning News” from 4am-5am, simulcasting Cox Media Group’s WFXT-TV, a FOX affiliate; and a slate of locally produced shows. Boston media icon Howie Carr hosts the 2pm-6pm show.
It is believed that Carter is not a Nielsen Audio ratings subscriber for Worcester or Boston, as WCRN does not appear in either market’s analyses.
