Betamax tapes (remember those?) are finally going away.
Sony will no longer produce them as of March 2016.
The manufacturer was still producing Betamax tapes for the Japanese market, despite discontinuing production of players and recorders in 2002.
After a prolonged battle of the formats in the ‘70s and ‘80s, Betamax lost to the rival VHS standard.
Sony is also taking its MicroMV camcorder cassettes off the market.
