Across the radio industry, he’s well known for his efforts to bring HD Radio to AM radio stations, in addition to his emphasis on finding and developing air personalities across the stations owned by Bryan Broadcasting.

Now, the company overseen on a day-to-day basis by Texas Association of Broadcasters 2010 Broadcaster of the Year and company VP/GM Ben Downs and led by President William Hicks has agreed to acquire a Bull … a 22,500-watt bucking bronco of a FM.

KJCS-FM 103.3 in Nacogdoches, Tex., a Class C2 FM serving the Lufkin, Tex., market, is being acquired by Bryan Broadcasting from Radio Licensing Inc., led by Carolyn Vance.

A filing submitted to the FCC for regulatory approval on February 22 indicates that the transaction, approved February 7, puts a value of $265,000 on the station.

Serving as the seller’s broker in this transaction is Bill Whitley of Media Services Group.

An earnest money deposit of $13,250 has been made to the seller by Bryan Broadcasting.

With KJCS, branded as “The Bull,” 12th radio brand will come to the company, focused on the Brazos Valley of Texas — the Bryan-College station market. Lufkin and Nacogdoches are 130 miles to the northeast.

KJCS is the heritage country radio station in Lufkin and Nacogdoches, Texas, and has been branded as “The Bull” for more than a decade.

The Lufkin-Nacogdoches market had been measured by Eastlan Ratings until December 2020. Across the COVID-19-impacted year, KJCS was the second-ranked Country station behind Townsquare Media‘s KYKS-FM. KJCS is Radio Licensing Inc.’s only station, and the sale ensures a regional operator will assume control of the station. Aside from Townsquare Media, KASA Family is the other operator of note in Lufkin.

In Bryan-College Station, Nielsen Audio’s No. 191-ranked market, Bryan’s KNDE “Candy 95,” an acclaimed Top 40 station, was the No. 1 radio station across 2022.
