Six months after Nexstar Media Group completed its acquisition of Tribune Media, the leader of its Fox and CW Network affiliates in Denver obtained via the transaction is leaving the company.

The destination? Charlotte, where she will lead TEGNA‘s NBC affiliate as of March 10.

That’s the official start date as President/GM at WCNC-36 for Joan Barrett.

The move sees Barrett depart as VP/GM of KDVR-TV, the Fox affiliate in Denver, and KWGN, the CW Network affiliate for the market.

Barrett arrived at KDVR & KWGN in February 2016, when Tribune Media owned the stations. Before that, she spent 12 years at Sunflower Broadcasting as President/GM. That’s the Schurz Communications subsidiary in Wichita comprised of KWCH, KSCW, KBSH, KBSD and KBSL; a JSA/SSA with Entravision-owned KDCU; and a 24-hour digital weather channel. She joined Sunflower in 2002 as News Director.

She began her career as a reporter and worked at several television stations as an anchor, producer and news director, including at TEGNA’s KPNX-12, the NBC affiliate in Phoenix; KVUE-TV in Austin; and WIBW-13 in Topeka, Kan.

“Joan possesses a combination of skills in journalism, marketing and digital media that make her extremely well-suited to lead our team at WCNC,“ said TEGNA EVP/COO for Media Operations Lynn Beall. “Her deep experience in the newsroom, outstanding track record in station management and her long history of community involvement make her an ideal choice to serve our audience in Charlotte.”
