Audacy’s Alternative Pick is Allers

In July 2007, he was named PD at WRFF-FM in Philadelphia, an iHeartMedia-owned Alternative station where he would rise to VP/Alternative while hosting the morning show. In January 2020, he was a victim of widespread reduction-in-force initiatives across iHeartRadio.

Now, John Allers is a part of the Audacy Inc. family.

Audacy is welcoming Allers as Regional Vice President of Alternative.

In this role, Allers will oversee Alternative stations in five markets:

  • KVIL-FM “ALT 103.7” in Dallas
  • KNRK-FM “94/7 Alternative” in Portland, Ore.
  • KKDO-FM “ALT 94-7” in Sacramento
  • KBZT-FM “ALT 949” in San Diego
  • KNDD-FM “107.7 The End” in Seattle

Allers is no stranger to West Coast Alternative radio. Before taking the Delaware Valley post in 2007, he was a regional Operations Manager for eight stations in San Jose and Monterey-Salinas, Calif., and PD/afternoon driver of former Alternative KCNL (Channel 104.9) in San Jose under Clear Channel ownership.

At iHeart, Allers oversaw the music and content for iHeart’s “Alternative Project,” a nationally distributed offering.

He began his career at WEQX-FM in Manchester, Vt., the independently owned tastemaker Alternative station serving much of the Albany-Schenectady-Troy, N.Y., market. He’s also been Asst. Program Director and midday host for WKLS (96 Rock) in Atlanta.

“I am thrilled to join Audacy at such an important time in the company’s evolution into a scaled, multi-platform audio content organization,” Allers said. “Audacy has an unmatched portfolio of legendary alternative brands and I look forward to joining Mike Kaplan, Jeff Sottolano, Dave Richards and the entire brand team as we continue to grow and evolve the company’s successful brands into the future.”

In related news, Christy Taylor has been appointed Regional Brand Manager of four Audacy Inc. Alternative stations, effective Thursday (11/4):

  • KRBZ-FM “ALT 96.5” in Kansas City
  • KXTE-FM “X107.5” in Las Vegas
  • WQMP-FM “FM 101.9” in Orlando
  • KNDD-FM “107.7 The End” in Seattle

Taylor and Allers have New York’s Capital District in common. She’s been the Music Director at WZMR and Top 40 WFLY-FM “Fly 92” in Albany. Her lengthy 20-year career in radio includes roles as Program Director for now-defunct KQGO-FM “Go 96.3” in Minneapolis and for XETRA-FM “91X” in Tijuana-San Diego. She’s also been a morning show producer for Minnesota Public Radio’s KCMP-FM “The Current.”

“I am beyond grateful and completely blown away by this incredible opportunity to join Mike Kaplan and his alternative team at Audacy as a Regional Brand Manager,” said Taylor. “This is something that I have been working towards for my entire career and I can’t wait to use my skills to start building connections with listeners on all these great stations.
